On June 20th, the first day of the 66th Kolon Korea Open Golf Championship with a total prize money of 1.4 billion won, held at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan (Par 71, 7,326 yards), 29 players out of 144 participants recorded under-par scores, an increase from 18 players last year.

In the morning session, Sang-moon Bae, Sung-yeol Kwon, and Kyung-nam Kang finished at the top with scores of 4-under 67 each. Baek Sang-moon, the two-time Korea Open Champion, recorded 6 birdies and 2 bogeys, delivering a strong performance. Kyung-nam Kang , who finished as runner-up last year, managed 7 birdies and 3 bogeys. Sang-moon Bae mentioned in a post-game interview, “KJ Choi’s victory last month was a strong motivation for me," adding, "I truly admire and respect him."

Kyung-nam Kang Takes Sole Lead in 2nd Round of the KOLON 66th Korea Open

Kyung-nam Kang surged into a sole lead, reducing his score by 4 shots on the second day of the Kolon Korea Open, the 66th year of the national title with a total prize money of 1.4 billion won.

Starting the day tied for the lead, Kyung-nam Kang recorded a 4-under-par 67 at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club (Par 71, 7,326 yards) on June 21st. His six birdies and two bogeys brought his total to 8-under-par 134, finishing two shots ahead in the lead.

Taking the lead outright with a birdie on the 1st hole, Kyung-nam Kang continued his momentum with birdies on holes 5 through 7. Despite a bogey on the 10th hole, he managed to add more birdies on the 11th and 14th holes. Ending the round with another birdie, he expressed satisfaction, stating, "I missed only two greens in regulation out of eighteen," and added, "Woo Jeong Hills demands precision in tee and second shots, and today my iron shots were exceptionally accurate, giving me numerous birdie opportunities."

Following his strong performance, Kyung-nam Kang now leads the tournament heading into the next round.

The Moving Day at the Kolon 66th Korea Open, a prestigious national title event in Korea with a total prize money of 1.4 billion won, saw significant shifts in player rankings due to two interruptions and resumptions caused by rain. Despite this, the top positions remain tightly contested with only one or two strokes difference, promising an exciting competition in the final round.

The champion will receive a prize of 500 million won, and the top two players will also earn tickets to participate in the upcoming July The Open.

Young-han Song, competing in this tournament for the first time in six years, surged ahead on June 22nd (Saturday) in the third round at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club (Par 71, 7,326 yards). He secured four birdies without any bogeys, finishing with a 4-under-par 67 to take a one-stroke lead alone at 8-under-par 205.

Min-kyu Kim Achieves Second Victory at the 66th Kolon Korea Open

Min-kyu Kim, representing Korea, clinched his second victory at the Kolon Korea Open, a national title event with a total prize money of 1.4 billion won. Following his extended-play victory over Min-kyu Cho in 2022, Min-kyu Kim secured his second career win, becoming the seventh player in the tournament's 66-year history to achieve two victories, following in the footsteps of Kyung-hoon Lee's 2015-16 wins after an eight-year gap.

On June 23rd (Sunday) at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club (Par 71, 7,326 yards), Min-kyu Kim carded a 5-under-par 66 in the final round, including an eagle, five birdies, and two bogeys, to finish with a total score of 11-under-par 273. Starting the day two strokes behind leader Young-han Song in third place, Min-kyu Kim birdied holes 3 and 5, and made par on the 7th hole. After an eagle on the 8th hole, he added birdies on the 12th and 14th holes in the latter part of the round.
